You can — that's the direct-encode option. But a long URL or full contact card makes a dense code, and dense codes need more skin to stay scannable. inkedqr.com/you is a handful of characters, produces the smallest possible code, and redirects wherever you want — including to a site you host yourself. Change jobs, change domains, keep the tattoo.
index.html (a redirect page, or a rendered contact page with a save-to-phone vCard), qr.png at 1024 px for your artist's stencil, and a README with hosting steps. Upload the folder to any static host under the URL you inked. No accounts, no lock-in.
That's exactly why the ZIP exists. Hosted handles can be exported to the same self-host bundle at any time. The honest answer: ink outlives companies, so only ink a domain you'd bet on — or one you own.
You can screenshot anything on a screen — no website can stop that — so the preview is built to be worthless instead. It's watermarked, its finder patterns are struck out so cameras can't lock onto it, and the handle it points at doesn't resolve until it's activated. A copied preview is a picture of a dead link.
Monthly ($4.99) is for ink that won't last — temporary tattoos, events, campaigns — and for testing before you commit; a decade of it would cost about $600. Lifetime ($79) breaks even against Monthly in 16 months, and tattoos outlast that, so permanent ink should always go Lifetime. Studio ($29/mo) includes five client activations a month with extras at $10 — each one puts the client's handle live with 3 months of hosting free, after which they continue at retail. Lapsed handles are held dormant for 12 months and never resold.
